It's always something ...

With horses it's always something.  First it was a "not quite right" day or two that was quickly fixed with pour-in pads (Thanks Mike!).  Then I get out to the barn today and pull off Lissell's blanket to discover a big 'ol hematoma on her left side right under her last three ribs.  After a mini-meltdown in the barn aisle, friend Stephanie Tadlock and trainer Kelley Williams were able to reason with me that while it looks ugly it's no where near her saddle and she's perfectly sound, so she'll be just fine for the trip.  So I quickly tacked up and had one of the best dressage lessons on Lissell that I've ever had.  One step at a time.  Maybe by the times she's 20 we'll be able to pull off a good dressage test!  For this upcoming weekend, I'm just focusing on having fun.  It's her first event since 2005, and I'm just so so so incredibly thankful to have her back in my life.  Getting to ride and jump her is just icing on the cake.

Above is one of my favorite photos of Lissell.  That's us going Novice at Redland in '05.  She likes to fly.  :-)
